The students have a small amount of time to “harvest” these math assignments. Each correct answer they get earns them “food.” The problems are the same for each round. I try to make them grade-level appropriate. My students are all presented with a series math problems. I then divide the remaining students up as “peasants” and assign them each to a group. Next I choose a lower level royal for each group I will plan to have, letting them choose to be Lord/Lady, Duke/Duchess, or Count/Countess. You cannot choose your birth circumstances in real life, so I do not let them choose their circumstances in the simulation either. In fact, everything in my simulation is random. Some kings were benevolent and popular, and some were received by audible groans. I find it important to make it random instead of basing this off of student behavior or performance because there were some kings who were very academically inclined, and some who were not.
